Solana is defined as the sunny side of a mountain or valley, or if you will “The sunny side of the street.”

I began my love affair with Mexico at a very young age. As a family, we began traveling to the bright, sunny and magical town of San Miguel de Allende in the Central Mexican mountains every summer when I was just 3 years old. I became a permanent resident in 2004. To this day, I am still in awe of the colors that emanate throughout this town and country everywhere you look.

Solana San Miguel de Allende is exhilarated to introduce its very first line of one of a kind, hand painted, bright and colorful glassware that finds its design inspiration from the Arte Popular de Mexico (Mexican Popular Art).

We have created our designs in collaboration with local San Miguel de Allende artist, Laura Mendez, who specializes in Arte Popular. She has spent her life perfecting her style and is completely self taught. Laura says, “I paint in the style of Arte Popular because it touches my soul and simply makes me happy!” Her work can be found on handpainted furniture around homes in San Miguel. We first collaborated together 5 years ago when she handpainted closets in my very own home. When I decided to explore designing glassware and accessories in this style, I knew exactly who I wanted to join me in this artistic process. I consider myself beyond fortunate to have Laura’s deft touch and exquisite artistry help create all our designs.

Mexican Popular Art is everywhere you look in San Miguel de Allende. Solana’s designs are drawn from our unique perspectives into the Talavera Pottery.

Solana San Miguel’s beautifully hand painted glassware celebrates the vibrant and enchanting colors that one finds on the sunny side of the hill anywhere in Mexico.
